Grade 8 Curriculum
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical education involves the development of the whole person
physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Physical education can
provide every child with awareness of body function, movement, and the joy of
effort which results from a program designed to meet the individual needs of
children. The skills and techniques taught in our program help each child to
experience success and enjoyment.
CONTENT
Lead-up Skills/Games and Team Sports: Team handball, soccer, volleyball,
basketball, floor hockey, softball, etc.
Individual/Dual Sports: Badminton, pickleball, track and field, etc.
Physical Fitness Activities: Circuit Training, Step Aerobics and/or Aerobic
Kick-Boxing
Project Adventure: Games, Trust activities, initiative problems and wall
climbing
Traditional Special Event: Field Day
HEALTH
The grade 8 Health curriculum encompasses the following general
topics: Self-esteem, Goal Setting, Relationships, Decision-Making, Self-Concept/Identity,
Communication, Relationships, Nutrition (Social and Cultural Influences, Eating
Disorders), CPR, Emergency Intervention, Advertising, Community Health/Service,
Illness/Disease Prevention, Human Reproductive Health and Anatomy, Abstinence,
STD's, Contraception, Harassment, Substance Use/Abuse, Systems Thinking.
