Grade 7 Curriculum

FRENCH
The seventh grade French program will be a continuation of the practice of the four language learning skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading) acquired in sixth grade. The students will further their knowledge in both written expression and spoken language. We will learn how to talk about likes and dislikes, our hobbies and possesions and compare our culture to the French one. The cultural focus will be on the provinces of France and of the French speaking countries of Europe.

Listening: Understanding classroom commands and directions and comprehending more complex conversations in context. Listening to French tapes and videos with native speakers. Listening to each other's dialogues (either read or memorized) and performed in class.

Speaking: Reviewing of the phonetic rules of the French language and practicing speaking in class. Reciting dialogues with peers in front of the class, using real-life situations and vocabulary (ordering food, expressing likes and dislikes, talking about one's family and friends, expressing approval or regret, asking and answering questions).

Writing: Writing more complex sentences, spelling words studied orally, Applying the grammar rules properly: regular and irregular verbs, agreement of the adjectives, idiomatic expressions, definite vs. indefinite articles, contractions and use of prepositions.

Reading: Reading and understanding dialogues and cultural vignettes in the text and activity books. Reading for understanding (lyrics and poems from the cultures studied this year). Reading out loud for pronunciation.
