Grade 6 Curriculum
FRENCH
The major objective of this course is to teach the foundations of the French language: basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and the fundamental rules of grammatical structure. Students will be introduced to everyday speech, and asked to use it in context, either in written or in oral form. Skits, songs and classroom drills will allow them to practice their communication and pronunciation skills.
The program will cover the following topics:
- Greetings and courtesy
- Ordering food and drink in a café, the French monetary system
- Getting to know one another (asking questions/personal information/family)
- Talking about likes and dislikes
- School related vocabulary
- Numbers, days, months, time and colors
- Adjectives, and adjective agreement
- Definite and indefinite articles
- Prepositions
- Possessives
- Regular -er verbs
- Irregular verbs être (to be), and avoir (to have) and idioms
The course will also introduce students to the geography and basic information about the French speaking countries and areas of the world, and some history of France.
